Because this always bears reblogging. Illustrates how cartography—specifically the ways in which cartographers shrink and expand land masses in order to depict a “flat” earth— distorts our perception of the world.

i need people to know that the fact that Africa is often portrayed so extremely out of scale is not just because the map is a flat version of the round earth

Again. Call the majority population of POC minorities and pretend Africa is a small, static country. -_- The amount of diversity on that continent is staggering. Oh and all the countries north of the Sahara are also African nations.

New trick

cat that is a no

how do cats even work

  • A cat can jump up to five times its own height in a single bound.
  • The little tufts of hair in a cat’s ear that help keep out dirt direct sounds into the ear, and insulate the ears are called “ear furnishings.”
  • The ability of a cat to find its way home is called “psi-traveling.” Experts think cats either use the angle of the sunlight to find their way or that cats have magnetized cells in their brains that act as compasses.
  • One reason that kittens sleep so much is because a growth hormone is released only during sleep.
  • A cat has 230 bones in its body. A human has 206. A cat has no collarbone, so it can fit through any opening the size of its head.
  • A cat’s nose pad is ridged with a unique pattern, just like the fingerprint of a human.
  • If they have ample water, cats can tolerate temperatures up to 133 °F.
  • A cat’s heart beats nearly twice as fast as a human heart, at 110 to 140 beats a minute.
  •  Cats don’t have sweat glands over their bodies like humans do. Instead, they sweat only through their paws.
  • The claws on the cat’s back paws aren’t as sharp as the claws on the front paws because the claws in the back don’t retract and, consequently, become worn.
  • Cats make about 100 different sounds. Dogs make only about 10.
  • Researchers are unsure exactly how a cat purrs. Most veterinarians believe that a cat purrs by vibrating vocal folds deep in the throat. To do this, a muscle in the larynx opens and closes the air passage about 25 times per second.
  • A cat almost never meows at another cat, mostly just humans. Cats typically will spit, purr, and hiss at other cats.
  • A cat’s back is extremely flexible because it has up to 53 loosely fitting vertebrae. Humans only have 34.
  • Some cats have survived falls of over 65 feet (20 meters), due largely to their “righting reflex.” The eyes and balance organs in the inner ear tell it where it is in space so the cat can land on its feet. Even cats without a tail have this ability.
  • A cat can travel at a top speed of approximately 31 mph (49 km) over a short distance.
  • A cat’s hearing is better than a dog’s. And a cat can hear high-frequency sounds up to two octaves higher than a human.
  • A cat’s brain is biologically more similar to a human brain than it is to a dog’s. Both humans and cats have identical regions in their brains that are responsible for emotions.

And that’s how cats work.

Thanks science

People will forget what you said. People will even forget what you did. People will NEVER forget how you made them feel. So spread emotions of kindness, no matter what the circumstances. I know it’s hard, but nothing worth having in life is easy, and personally, I’d like to live in a community full of loving, kind, and cheerful individuals.

Wouldn’t you???

This doesn’t mean I wanna live in Mr Roger’s neighborhood, because we definitely should NOT ignore the problems that we face as a community, nation, and world. All I’m saying, is that we need to think less about ourselves, less about others, and more about EVERYONE. Including ourselves AND others at the same time. Not as individuals, but as one. For we are all one. To sum it all up, let’s start acting like we give a shit, people. Do something to make someone’s day brighter, TODAY. Not tomorrow, not a week from now, but TODAY. RIGHT NOW! GO, DO IT!!!!!

Is meat really that necessary?

Animals have feeling too, you know.

i’m crying

sometimes i hate being a vegan

because whenever i see shit like this i break down

like im doing all i can to help and i want them to know that

but they still have to live through this and i cant stand it

This only reason these atrocities still occur is down to every non-vegan believing they have zero personal responsibility.  People wanting what comes from someone else’s body is the only reason why this suffering happens in the first place.

None of this is necessary.  It isn’t anyone’s right to deny the rights of others.  The pain these animals experience doesn’t end when you stop thinking about it.

Shit like this happens because we think of animals as commodities. Their greatest value, to us, lies in what their death brings us. Therefore, to justify eating meat, we had to assume their lives hold little to no value.

If their lives hold little to no value, their suffering is insignificant.

Respecting an animal’s LIFE and rejecting the use of them as resources is THE ONLY WAY to solve cruelty. Go vegan.

Here’s my question to anyone who doesn’t think this is cruel… would you think it was cruel if a superior race, more intelligent than ourselves came to planet Earth, rounded the majority of us up in huge cities, and processed us in the same exact way? Probably. So why is it justified to do this to creatures who we don’t consider as “intelligent” as us, or as “worthy” as us? We really need to get rid of this whole “social value” thing we have going on as a human race. It’s pretty irrelevant valuing other humans, animals, higher than other ones based on what they have, or what they can do. In the famous words of Jewel, “In the end, only kindness matters.”
